Valentine's Day Treat Bags

Are you hosting a Valentine's Day party this year? Or perhaps you are bringing in treats to your children's classrooms.  Today we have a round up of treat bag inspirations and tips on creating your own perfect Valentine's Day Treat Bags.  It's a lot easier than you think with the right supplies.

Here is our Pinterest round up of the best treat bags out there!  We are using these ideas for inspiration to create our own. Which creation is your favorite?
Credits for our round up!  Top to bottom, left to right: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9

To make your own treat bags, stock up on some necessary supplies.  To make really cute bags, you will need:

Here's how to do it, step by step!
  1. Divide your pile of kraft bags in half.
  2. Load your stamp on your PSA Standard Stamper pre-loaded with ink, or onto an acrylic block. Stamp onto half of the kraft bags.
  3. Adhere stickers on the other half of your kraft bags.
  4. Fill each bag with candy (only fill about half way so you have room at the top!)
  5. Tie half of the bags with twine and stick on your personalized treat sticker underneath (use the side that doesn't have stamps or stickers on it.)
  6. Fold the other half of the bags down, and seal with your personalized treat sticker.
You will have two different kinds of treat bags -- ones that are all stamped up and tied with twine, and others that are all stickered up and sealed with your personalized sticker.  That's it!  Two easy ways to make great looking treat bags for Valentine's Day!

Share your favorite treat bags or give us ideas for ours on our Facebook page!

There are plenty of options at the drug store that you can score last minute, but with a little advanced planning, you can get some REALLY adorable ones at a GREAT price here at More Than Paper.

It's no surprise that we also have a tremendous selection for girls.  From ballerinas, heart candies, flowers, horses, fairies and princesses, we have something for every girlie girl.   See our selection here!

Thank you notes in 2014

This year, resolve yourself to write more thank you notes and letters to friends and family.  Email is always a great way of communicating.  It's fast!  But it's a welcomed feeling to get a letter in the mail, isn't it?  At More Than Paper, it's always the first thing we open!  In a sea of bills and junk mail, a handwritten note goes a long way.  Today we have a great selection of personal stationery from which to choose and tips for writing great notes.

Boatman Geller's collection of trendy yet classic styles of stationery, note cards, and note pads at More Than Paper are all great for thank you notes and everyday correspondence. From quatrefoil to chevron, herringbone to Aztec, there's a pattern for everyone.  There's also a monogram, typestyle and color combo for every taste, too!  What's your favorite note below?

Shop our wide selection of Boatman Geller products here and see all the products specifically at the end of this post!

• • • Here are a few ways to help you with your thank you notes in 2014 • • •
  1. Keep a running list of thank you notes to compose right on your desk!  Every time a gift comes in, someone does something nice for you, or you attend a dinner party or play date, write it down on the list.  Every weekend, or once a week when it's convenient for you, take a few minutes to catch up on your list and write a note.  Cross it off and be done with it!
  2. Always include specific details about why you appreciated the gift, how it makes your life better, more interesting, or more fun.  The more specific the better!
Not writing a thank you note? If you are just sending happy mail, here are some tips:
  1. Feel free to keep it short!  A few lines letting the person know you are thinking of them and why you are thinking about them will make them feel good.  The process doesn't have to be arduous for you!
  2. Include some personal details about what you have been doing, or your family is up to to keep it interesting.
  3. End by asking a question.  This may prompt the recipient to write back and become a "pen pal!"
What are your tips for writing notes?  Which of the above Boatman Geller stationery designs is your favorite? We'd love to hear - share your thoughts here or on our Facebook page.

Ways to save money at the grocery store

A common new year's resolution is to save money.  There are a variety of ways to save and today More Than Paper is sharing 5 easy ways to save at the grocery store.  For most families, monies spent at the grocery store is typically the second largest expense, with mortgage or rent being number one.  Save big each month with these easy tips.

#1:  Stock your pantry with store-brand spices, oils, vinegars and marinades.   Store-brand spices, oils, vinegar and marinades are virtually identical to name-brand ones. Compare ingredients but save big when you buy store-brand on pantry items.

#2:  Don't waste the food that's in your refrigerator.  Make sure you freeze meats before they expire. Before bananas go bad, use them for smoothies, make banana bread or freeze them for later use.  Avoid frequent trips to the grocery store during the week and make do with what's in your fridge by stretching your creativity.   Use as much as possible before shopping again.  Make it a game to only go to the grocery store once a week!

#3:  Don't forget about canned foods!  Using canned foods as ingredients to your home cooked meals is a great way to save money, especially if you stockpile staples, such as canned tomatoes, beans, tuna or salmon, when they are on sale.  Use canned beans in salads, as a side dish, or make your own hummus.  Toss canned beans in main dishes for extra protein and fiber.   Canned tuna and canned salmon also make an inexpensive lunch.  Diced tomatoes are a must have and can be used in many recipes.  The best part about canned foods is that they will not spoil!  How many times have you bought fresh vegetables with the intent to cook a meal, only to get sidetracked and then have the vegetables spoil?

#4:  Buy meat on sale.  Look for ground beef to use for meatloaf, pasta, and burgers - it's an inexpensive meat that can be used for a variety of dishes.   Look for the one meat that often goes on sale during the week in your grocer's circular.  (Note: avoid manager specials for meat, since they are very close to or at expiration date, unless you plan on eating the meat that night.)

#5:  Go vegetarian one night a week.   Plan your menu to include one meat-free night.  Instead use beans, salad with lots of veggies and lentils or cook pasta.

We love using our reusable personalized grocery tote while shopping.  This one carries about 2 plastic bags worth of groceries and is a one-time investment that's worth every penny as it saves the environment!

So how do you save money at the grocery store?  Share your tips with us here!
