Happy New Year!

There are many different kinds of New Year's Eve traditions.  For some, it is a time to go all out -- get dressed up and celebrate with friends.  For others, it is a time to relax on the couch and watch the ball drop (or even just a movie and early to bed!)  Whatever your tradition is, we hope that you have a safe and happy New Year's Eve, and a wonderful New Year's Day tomorrow!

Spa Day

As people run around this year shopping and wrapping gifts, preparing holiday meals, and entertaining, stress levels are running high.  At More Than Paper, we've assembled ideas for an at-home spa day!  So whether you can reserve a whole day or just a few hours, give yourself the gift of reduced stress.

First grab the right gear like your personalized bath towel wrap and flip flops (you will feel more like you are at the spa!)  In your personalized chevron spa bag, load up some relaxing lavender bath oils, eye cream, eye mask, and Bliss socksLight a candle with a calming fragrance and prepare to relax.

Start by taking a relaxing bath with some soothing music.   Afterwards, focus on a few key areas of stress like your eyes and your feet.  After the bath, dab eye cream on your eyes and sit back with a frozen eye mask and enjoy some music or peace and quiet.  Load your feet up with foot cream and put on the socks for at least 30 minutes.  (Sleep in them overnight for great results!)

We think that after a little "you" time, you will rejoin the world feeling refreshed and less stressed.   Share your stress saving tips with us here or on our Facebook page and tell us how you keep calm during the holidays!

Setting your table for Christmas

There are so many beautiful ways to entertain at Christmas.  We love when the china, crystal and silver that has been passed down from generation to generation come out and really sparkle. Whether you are hosting a few for Christmas dinner or many, creating a seating arrangement with place cards is a great way to ensure good conversation and organization.

We created a simple place card setting using white card stock, red ink loaded in our PSA Essentials stamper, and a whimsy tree stamp from PSA Whimsy Tree Peel & Stick stamps

To create the place card setting, cut white card stock to 3" x 3" or choose a patterned paper or color card stock (any will do!)  Take your PSA Essentials stamper loaded with red ink and a whimsy tree, and stamp on the paper.  You can use any stamp or even a sticker, we have some cute ones in our Crafter's Corner, check out these great stickers!

We placed an ornament on the plate for each person as a special gift/favor for the holidays! The Spode China mixed with classic Christmas plaid placemats, crystal, and antique silver make for a unique and eclectic holiday tablescape.  Each family has its own traditions and story at Christmas.  What's yours?

Letters to Santa

As a child, the magic of Santa landing on the rooftop, sliding down the chimney, eating cookies, and delivering presents is unparalleled.   It's a wonderful tradition but as a parent, how do you balance that magic and all those presents, while keeping your kids grounded at the same time?

The tradition of writing to Santa Claus with all of your gift requests is one that we enjoy but with a slight modification. We created a FREE printable that you can download and use at home.  Instead of just writing what your child would like, ask them to write what they would like Santa to give a boy or girl who doesn't have many toys.  It's a great opportunity to discuss how fortunate you are, and how there are others who are less fortunate this season. And it's a good reminder (we hope) that Christmas is not just about giving gifts.

You can also write letters on our Imprintable Letterhead Papers, available for sale at More Than Paper.

This Christmas, there are many ways to give back to your community, neighbors and friends and all round the world.  Here are some ideas.  Check your local papers as many organizations are currently advertising toy drives, food bank needs, and soup kitchen volunteer requests.  You can also:
  1. Write letters, design or buy cards to send to the men and women serving our country in Holiday Mail for Heros
  2. Donate Pajamas to The Pajama Program which donates books and pjs to kids in need. Many of the children are abused or neglected and have never or rarely experienced their mothers/fathers tucking them in bed at night, with warm pjs and a good book.
  3. Plant 1 billion trees!
  4. Invite an elderly neighbor or someone who lives alone to join your holiday celebration.
  5. Deliver a meal to a family in need.
  6. Donate clothes and food to a local shelter or charity.
  7. Donate unused airline miles to help travel dreams become a reality for families who can't afford to fly.  Visit Wishes in Flight for more info!
  8. Knit for a cause!
There are so many wonderful charities out there.  We hope that with all the gifts you get this year, you will think about giving back a little bit more!

Pumpkin Monkey Bread

The flavors of the season are abundant in our kitchen and the aroma is intoxicating!   We took a spin on the classic Monkey Bread recipe and added pumpkin.  What a seasonal treat loved by all.  From the kitchen of More Than Paper, here is our delicious Pumpkin Monkey Bread recipe.  If you are headed to brunch at a friend's house this season, monkey bread is a crowd pleasing dish to bring along.

We love these recipe cards by Boatman Geller available at More Than Paper.com.  For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

Directions:

Step 1:  Heat the oven to 350 degrees.  Lightly grease a round pan with butter.  In a large plastic food bag, mix granulated sugar, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice.

Step 2:  Cut crescent roll dough into quarters, or tear evenly into pieces.  Shake in the bag to coat evenly.

Step 3:  In a small bowl, mix melted butter and brown sugar.  Add a dash of vanilla extract, or about 1/4 tsp.  Pour liquid mixture over biscuit pieces in the bowl.

Step 4:  Bake for 18-20 minutes or until dough is completely cooked.  Flip upside down on a plate and serve warm.  Pull apart to enjoy!

If you are bringing this dish to brunch, consider writing out the recipe and stamping your "From the Kitchen of" personalized stamp on note cards and leaving for guests to bring home.  (You know they are going to be asking!)   More Than Paper has a variety of personalized kitchen stamps from which to choose for the avid cook.
